This commitment is reflected in the achievement of the BREEAM In-Use certification at an Excellent level, the highest score ever recorded in Spain for a hotel, recognizing practices such as efficient water use, smart systems and solutions that support urban biodiversity. The Madrid EDITION continues this commitment through refillable bathroom amenities, reusable water bottles and compostable or recyclable materials throughout our operations. Through our careful selection of suppliers, The Madrid EDITION works with partners who prioritize recycled materials, low-impact production, renewable energy and responsible waste management. These partnerships reduce emissions, minimize harmful chemicals and support social and environmental initiatives, ensuring that products we use reflect our commitment to the planet. Luxury thrives when the community thrives. The Madrid EDITION supports social initiatives that create real impact. In partnership with local organizations, we engage in programs that promote inclusion, reduce waste and support vulnerable communities in Madrid. Our team regularly volunteers and participates in donation drives, aligning with Marriott’s global mission to foster opportunity, human rights and equality for all.

Sustainability is most powerful when it becomes part of our everyday rituals. Through our partnership with KMZero, The Madrid EDITION has replaced single-use plastic water bottles with a refined, filtered-water system available throughout the hotel. Since its installation, this quiet shift has helped us avoid 567,000 plastic bottles, save 8,505 kilograms of plastic, prevent 46,607 kilograms of CO₂ emissions and conserve 1,701,000 liters of water. A small change in habit, a transformative change in impact.

Movement with intention is the future of travel. At EDITION, we champion cleaner, smarter ways to move, from encouraging the use of electric vehicles and bicycles to offering seamless on-site charging stations for our guests. The Madrid EDITION strengthens this commitment with dedicated EV chargers, parking spaces for eco-friendlier alternatives such as bicycles or scooters and thoughtfully designed services that make sustainable mobility effortless. It’s our way of ensuring every journey leaves a lighter footprint.

The Madrid EDITION has achieved BREEAM In-Use Part 2 certification at Excellent level (76.63%), the highest score recorded in Spain to date in this category.

Beyond the recognition itself, what matters is what sits behind it. This result reflects ongoing work in the day-to-day operation of the hotel, not a one-off initiative, focused on improving how we manage energy, water, resources and the building’s overall impact, while keeping the guest experience front of mind.

That is precisely what BREEAM assesses: how buildings perform in practice, from energy use to management, mobility and the wellbeing of the people who use them.

Along the way, we have implemented a number of practical measures, including: greywater reuse systems energy optimization across rooms and facilities smart control technologies initiatives to improve the building’s environmental integration

This recognition builds on our LEED Gold certification for design and construction, as well as BREEAM Part 1, and reflects an approach that spans both the design of the hotel and its daily operation.

Behind this is a joint effort by the team at The Madrid EDITION, Archer Hotel Capital, and our partners at PGI Engineering & Consulting to bring these initiatives into practice.
