Sustainability is most powerful when it becomes part of our everyday rituals. Through our partnership with KMZero, The Madrid EDITION has replaced single-use plastic water bottles with a refined, filtered-water system available throughout the hotel. Since its installation, this quiet shift has helped us avoid 567,000 plastic bottles, save 8,505 kilograms of plastic, prevent 46,607 kilograms of CO₂ emissions and conserve 1,701,000 liters of water. A small change in habit, a transformative change in impact.

Movement with intention is the future of travel. At EDITION, we champion cleaner, smarter ways to move, from encouraging the use of electric vehicles and bicycles to offering seamless on-site charging stations for our guests. The Madrid EDITION strengthens this commitment with dedicated EV chargers, parking spaces for eco-friendlier alternatives such as bicycles or scooters and thoughtfully designed services that make sustainable mobility effortless. It’s our way of ensuring every journey leaves a lighter footprint.

The Madrid EDITION has achieved BREEAM In-Use Part 2 certification at Excellent level (76.63%), the highest score recorded in Spain to date in this category.

Awarded by BREEAM ES, one of the world’s leading building sustainability assessment frameworks, the certification evaluates the operational performance of existing buildings across areas such as energy efficiency, resource management, environmental impact, occupant wellbeing, mobility, and sustainable maintenance practices.

Located in the heart of Madrid’s historic and cultural center, The Madrid EDITION has established itself as a benchmark for contemporary luxury, integrating design, innovation, and sustainability into every aspect of the guest experience. The certification recognizes the hotel’s ongoing efforts to operate responsibly and minimize its environmental footprint.

Among the initiatives that contributed to this achievement are greywater recycling and reuse systems, smart technologies for energy monitoring and optimization throughout the property, and sustainable rooftop solutions designed to support urban biodiversity and improve the building’s environmental integration.

This milestone builds on The Madrid EDITION’s previous sustainability achievements, including LEED Gold certification for design and construction and BREEAM In-Use Part 1 certification. Together, these recognitions demonstrate a comprehensive sustainability strategy that encompasses both the building’s design and its day-to-day operations.

As a result of its Excellent rating in BREEAM In-Use Part 2, combined with its outstanding performance in Part 1, The Madrid EDITION currently holds the highest hotel score in Spain across both BREEAM In-Use categories as well as the overall scheme.

This achievement reflects the collective efforts of teams across the hotel, with particularly significant contributions from the Engineering team, alongside the sustainability team at Archer Hotel Capital. The project was also supported by PGI Engineering & Consulting and its Energy & Sustainability division, strategic partners in the development, monitoring, and certification of the measures implemented.

More than a technical recognition, this certification underscores The Madrid EDITION’s commitment to shaping a future where luxury and sustainability go hand in hand, responding to the evolving expectations of travelers, investors, and operators seeking more responsible and forward-thinking hospitality experiences.
